The SSI Classified Dive Buddy program is intended to provide students with the training necessary to dive with a Classified Diver in environments and to depths equivalent with their training.
Diving is an inclusive sport and we want everyone to be able to dive even if you have some level of disability. This course will give you the knowledge, skills and a understanding to be able to support a classified diver whether you have a classified diver buddy already or you want to help others dive. .
This course offers comprehensive training, expertise, and practical experience to equip classified dive buddies to supoort classified divers, and ensure enhanced safety and support for the Diver with additional needs (Classified Divers) in water.
Through knowledge development and confined water diving workshop - you will learn and practice useful techniques that will increase your ability to become a great classified dive buddy. You will gain insight and practical experience as you learn about becoming more aware and mindful of individual considerations when diving with people with disabilities.
The curriculum covers a range of topics, including Diver classification, Specialised equipment essential for classified diving and best practices for water entries/exits, conducting skills, propulsion methods, executing classified dives and much more.
Requirements
- Open Water Certified
- Stress and Rescue Diver/Rescue Diver
- Minimum: 18 years old
- Have proof of First aid and CPR Training in the last 2 years
Course Structure
- Knowledge Development and workshops
- 2-3 Pool Sessions*
*You may wish to support a classified diver through a Classified Diver Course in which there are 5-6 pool sessions.
